One benefit of running transit with high fare-bock recovery rates is cutting service isn't particularly helpful for politicians needing to balance a tough budget.

Pennsylvania desperately needs some state level land-use liberalization reforms, because there will NEVER be enough money for transit as long as local municipalities are banning apartment buildings and even modest Missing Middle housing like duplexes near transit stations.

With large parts of the city zoned for single family zoning and remaining parking minimums, I think you could make the case that Philly's land-use regulations are more suburban that Burlington, VT.

And sure you can argue with me, but pretty embarrassing that it's even debatable!

Feels like American commuter rail is at a crossroads where systems will either reform into real transit connecting together regions or stagger on, ever at risk of service cuts prompted by staggering per-trip subsidy requirements.

Looks like Boston is headed in right direction!
