Soon to be released, ‘Waste’ is an ethnographic film directed by Disobedient Buildings postdoctoral researcher Gabriela Nicolescu. ‘Waste’ follows Manuela, a resident of an ageing block of flats in Bucharest, on her recycling journey.

We see Manuela making everyday decisions while shopping, cooking and disposing of things to minimise her waste, but she also asks pressing questions about the efficiency of the block’s and the city’s waste management. Ultimately, where does her waste actually go?

Soon to be released, ‘She Waves At Me’ explores what it feels like to be an ageing body in an ageing housing estate in Central London. Shot and produced by Professor Inge Daniels, the film is based on 18 months of ethnographic fieldwork.

‘She Waves At Me’ juxtaposes the intricate care that goes into maintaining the buildings and their surroundings with elderly inhabitants’ struggles and strategies to create safe and comfortable homes for themselves and their loved ones.
