Two little moths in the garden recently, both new to me. Copper Ermel (first record for Flintshire) and the Sycamore-seed Pigmy (first record for 35 years in Flintshire), both beautiful and at less than 1cm in size could easily be missed in the wild. #mothsmatter #mothmonday

Exciting news...plans next week where you can have your say on one of the most talked about fungi topics on our events...but more about that soon, in the meantime, have a good weekend.#fungifriday #nature

A relaxing Boxing Day spent watching Waxwings in North Wales; they remain one of my favourite birds. Hopefully, there will be a few more encounters before the winter ends. #birds #nature #NorthWales

Nice to see a spread in my local Winter Stalkballs (Tulostoma brumale), at least 500+ fruiting bodies today in a small area on an industrial estate in Flintshire. It is a sandy site, mimicking it's love of dune slacks. #fungifriday #fungus #nature

Always nice to spend time with some Bloody-nosed Beetles. This particular stunner was crossing the stone path in front of me, would have been rude not to capture his beautiful colours. North Wales providing fascinating wildlife as always 😀. #nature #wildlife #northwards

It is not everyday you can watch Waxwings in North Wales whilst an orchestra of Garden Warbler, Cuckoo and Redstart are all in full song, but its one of those weird weeks. A part of me lives in hope they may stay and breed, but they will move on soon no doubt. #nature #birds

Sunset Lichen (Lichenomphalia alpina) yesterday in the mountains, the highlight of an otherwise quiet day for nature. Loving the Welsh name, Bogail Melyn y Mynydd, Yellow Navel of the Mountain. Not recorded in North Wales since 2006 looking online. #fungi #mushroom #NorthWales

A few days of plant and fungi hunting this week and started off with Wild Liquorice, Astragalus glycyphyllos, (no not the plant you get liquorice from) at Marford Quarry near Wrexham. Always do love photographing the pea family, they are so pretty. #wildflower #nature

Lovely to spend the evening on lush rich wildflower grassland. This Dingy Skipper was very obliging and so would have been rude not to grab a pic. Understated beauty? I think so, they may not be as showy as other butterflies but they are just as charismatic. #butterfly #nature

Common Butterwort, Pinguicula vulgaris, growing in a very wet bog here in North Wales. This specimen was growing on wet rock on the path edge, allowing me to get a pic without getting too wet. A fly looks to be the next meal for this carnivorous plant. #wildflowerhour #bythewater

Lovely day out with Cofnod yesterday recording wildlife. This Nursery Web Spider closely guarding its spiderlings was a great find by Richard. The Cave Spider (Meta menardi) he found will still give me nightmares though. #Spider #nature

Not the best looking specimen, but finally glad to see Mountain Grisette (Amanita nivalis) in North Wales, growing on the plateaus with Dwarf Willow. Lots of dried out examples but there is always next year to try and find a pristine one! Cofnod #fungi #mushroom #northwales

Last night, I went out into Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park to catch up with a common species of mushroom that takes on a totally different appearance at night. I even made a video about it. m.youtube.com/watch?v=QAWaCf… Enjoy your UK Fungus Day this weekend folks! #FungusFriday

A stunning display over Flintshire last night, peaking around midnight, it was simply incredible. A huge thanks to Dani Robertson for their enthusiasm and for inspiring me to be interested in the dark sky and, of course, to the late Alyn Wallace 🌌. #aurora #NorthWales

☄️Comet over the Llŷn Peninsula. I was treated to views of the comet the other evening in the skies over Trefor, North Wales. Glad the clouds kept away, otherwise 80,000 years is a long wait to try again. Dave. #comet #astro
