*SO* damn excited to share our latest European Research Council (ERC) in New Phytologist - we've isolated, cultured and colonised Trifolium with Mucoromycotina 'fine root endophyte' and THEN show *direct* carbon-for-nutrient exchange nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11… @G_Hoysted Besiana Sinanaj #Mycorrhiza

Out loading barley yesterday. The trailers are 4 trips old and the silo is 74 years old and still functioning. Roughly 120 of them built from 1930s across Vic. 7 flights of ladders to the top, 3200 tonne capacity and grain can be moved easily between all 5 cells. Built cleverly.

🌱🍄Our soil sampling efforts across Australia are expanding as we uncover the hidden world of mycorrhizal fungi beneath our feet. We can't wait to analyse our samples & share our findings! 🤩 But the more samples we have, the better our data. If you're interested in

🌱🍄 Mycorrhizal fungi are important for soil and plant health 🌿🌍 Surprisingly, we're still in the dark about the fungal communities in Australian agro-ecosystems! 🤔 That's why we're conducting a nationwide soil survey to identify and map these amazing fungi. 🧪🌾 We need

Except in Australia- we like to talk a big game and then spend approximately fuck all on conservation efforts. All sizzle no steak from either major party. Media releases not funds.

🍄 Mycorrhizal fungi take on a huge amount of carbon! It’s equivalent to more than a third of global annual fossil fuel emissions. Phenomenal! It’s clear we need to get more data on mycorrhizal fungi. We’ve overlooked them for too long. theconversation.com/hidden-carbon-…

Next week I'll be in Darwin, Northern Territory. I'm looking for farmers/plantations/grazing sites to collect soil samples for Dig Up Dirt 🧬 If you are a grower/farmer/grazier or know someone who might be happy for us to grab some soil, let me know! #mycorrhiza #fungi

Many thanks to all the farmers, land managers, collaborators, and to TERN for their support in our first 12 month soil sampling campaign to survey communities arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi all over Australia.
