Bravissima to our own Rachel Clayton for winning the S4-S6 category of SCILT's Italian poster design competition. Grazie mille to SCILT & Celino's for sending on a traditional Italian Easter egg as a prize. Below is Rachel's design based on the Sanremo music festival.

Mr Dodds' S3 French class have spoken. Their favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is Netherlands 🇳🇱 (by a significant margin of votes). Their remaining top five were Finland in 2nd 🇫🇮, Croatia in 3rd 🇭🇷 Greece in 4th 🇬🇷 and Cyprus in 5th 🇨🇾

Mr Dodds' S1 French have been learning how to say the animals associated with Chinese New Year and the personality adjectives said to describe those born under each animal of the zodiac. A nice colourful end to the week. Bravo à tous! 🇫🇷 🇨🇳 🐍

#WhyLearnGerman? Experts say that 𝗱𝘆𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 should be learning languages. German is a "transparent language" with clear letter-sound correspondence, making reading & spelling easier. German sounds are very close to English & there are many shared words! 💡

Why do languages matter? Because languages are about communication, understanding, solidarity and respect. Another language is another perspective, another outlook and another world view. It's life lived through a different lens. That's why languages matter to all of us.

When a language course disappears, so do the chances for students to see the world differently, connect more deeply and understand life beyond our borders. It's not just a loss to academia - it's lesser experiences, quieter voices, narrower minds. Languages make lives richer.
