We study genomics and viral diseases, especially HIV and now feat. COVID-19, and spend a lot of time wondering what makes viruses cause disease.

Thanks to Former Account of Eli Lilly and Company Mount Sinai Health System Katarina Braun, MD, PhD Gage Moreno TCF lab oconnorlab UNM Health Sciences and GISAID Initiative, we've added 153 genomes from the US (IL, WI, NY, WY)! Many NY genomes (orange, image 1) cluster with those previously sampled there. We also can now see transmission chains in WI

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to hear about the #SARSCoV2 / #COVID19 research happening at AVRL ! If you missed it you can watch it here: uwmadison.box.com/s/zl1warigqnrh… oconnorlab

Thanks to the efforts of David B., we now have a Wisconsin-centric version of the Nextstrain SARS-CoV-2 visualization with data collected by Gage Moreno and Katarina Braun, MD, PhD openresearch.labkey.com/wiki/Coven/pag…

GISAID Initiative Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf The new sequences from WI, USA cluster with previously sampled WI sequences within the North American clusters. Thanks to Katarina Braun, MD, PhD Gage Moreno TCF lab oconnorlab!

We continue to sequence Wisconsin viruses – recent viruses are nesting with previously identified clusters, consistent with ongoing community transmission. Physical distancing remains important! Gage Moreno TCF lab oconnorlab

Certain neighborhoods in #Milwaukee have been disproportionately affected by #COVID19 but lacked viral sequencing to understand their outbreak. Katarina Braun, MD, PhD and I were lucky enough to add 93 sequences to the global tree to begin to understand the #MKE outbreak oconnorlab TCF lab

Our preliminary analysis of the #Milwaukee #SARSCoV2 / #hCoV19 outbreak is on LabKey at go.wisc.edu/dp6k0p. The Milwaukee epidemic appears to have few introductions and is largely driven by established chains of local transmission. Katarina Braun, MD, PhD oconnorlab Thomas Friedrich

We have updated our WI #SARSCoV2 Nextstrain build to show the 369 genomes that Katarina Braun, MD, PhD and I have sequenced. You can now view it by all of WI, Dane County, or the greater Milwaukee area with higher resolution in the map view ➡️ go.wisc.edu/r7374f oconnorlab TCF lab

Katarina Braun, MD, PhD and I have been so fortunate to be in labs that allowed us to shift gears and quickly begin to understand the current pandemic! Excited to see where this all goes! oconnorlab TCF lab

My group with Shelby O'Connor , TCF lab , regulatory support from UW–Madison, saliva guidance from @NathanGrubaugh , support from WARF (Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation) , @wnprc, and NIH RADx.

Excited to see that this review with my friends from Doherty Institute and Kirby Institute, UNSW on SARS-CoV-2 assays and animal models is out! nature.com/articles/s4157…

Got milk? Interested in citizen science? We are starting to look for grocery store milk and cream from certain dairy processors (can be identified from labeling on the carton) from around Wisconsin as part of our ongoing H5N1 influenza monitoring. DM oconnorlab if interested.
