Of 71 patients, 65% have elevated mycoplasma pneumoniae IgG titers (a potential biomarker of autoimmunity), 24% had mitochondrial cytopathy, 17% had autoimmune thyroiditis, 17% had Sjogren’s disease, 16% had vitamin B12 deficiency, 13% had vitamin E deficiency,

13% had vitamin B6 toxicity (too much B6), and 12% had diabetes/impaired glucose tolerance. Autoimmunity was seen in 71% of patients with small fiber neuropathy and a hyperadrenergic state, 64% of patients with small fiber neuropathy,

40% with a pre-ganglionic autonomic neuropathy, and 37% with a hyperadrenergic state without neuropathy. The researchers note, “searching for an etiology is crucial to administer a core treatment of POTS, more likely to be effective than symptomatic treatment alone”
