Been on an '80s/'90s action movie kick lately (I'm working on an idea). I love how little backstory & setup there usually is. I haven't encountered any leads yet who are dealing with childhood trauma or daddy issues or shit like that. Just life & death situations. Refreshing.

The hero in these films is often just a functioning everyday person suddenly thrown into a crazy narrative. I often feel that the industry these days presumes a hero needs some kind of trauma to overcome. What these classic action films suggest is...maybe they don't??
