Kali Dayton Walking Home From The ICU on why sedating ICU patients into unconsciousness isn't more kind or humane than wakefulness—it's less. Recorded at #SCCM2025 for the #ICULiberation committee.

I have spent the past 5 years discovery, digesting, and disseminating the vast research about #delirium. I’ve done 191 podcast episodes dedicated to this topic. Here’s how to most effectively teach about delirium: Let survivors do the talking.

I have a dream, that one day I will hear for the LAST TIME a frustrated ICU #dietitian complaining in the office about the doctor who never wants to feed their patients. Biomarkers unite! 🤝😅 #ASPEN25

I presented on post-intensive care syndrome today at the Specialist Education in ECMO conference at Disney’s Contemporary Hotel. On stage were equally passionate Dr. Kali Dayton, critical illness survivor Cathy Garrett, and licensed mental health counselor Stephanie Jacques.

Alasdair MacLullich ICUsteps #Delirium this is what it looks like. If felt like Hell. HELL ON EARTH. I am so grateful my family & Providers saved me…AND as WesElyMD taught me: “Delirium is not benign…Doctors must realize that survival alone is not enough—we have to care what life is like after the ICU."

🙋‍♂️Do you exercise ICU patients on ventilator in your ICU? Comment a ❤️ and tell me how you do it! This is patient in Brazil 🇧🇷 doing #physicaltherapy on a ventilator- Amazing! 🤩 👉Physical therapy & exercise while intubated on ventilator should be the standard of care in all

I’m walking 3.5 miles every day in July with 30 pounds on my back. 3.5 days is the average ICU stay - these miles are for ICU survivors, for those lost in delirium, and for their families. And for the 9 years since I woke from a month long coma. Inspired by the American Delirium Society

An important aspect of rehab that I neglected because I was too focused on my end goals of returning to work and competitive sport (I failed), that I didn’t see the need for intermediate goals. Looking back, that was a mistake. Goals need to be sustainable, as well as achievable.

YOU know the feeling…when you walk into an ICU are just know this is where you are meant to practice as a PT, OT or SLP. 20 years ago this happened for me! The feeling of being able to meet someone at such a vulnerable time❤️‍🩹Join me: bit.ly/JHCARE-ICU #icurehab
