Samford AD Martin Newton has been named vice chair of the DI MBB Committee for the 2025-26. He's following in the footsteps of his father, C.M. Newton, the Naismith Hall of Famer who is a past chair of the committee. Martin will serve as chair in 2026-27. ncaa.org/news/2025/7/11…

From Dan Gavitt “Expanding the tournament fields is no longer being contemplated for the 2026 men’s and women’s basketball championships. However, the committees will continue conversations on whether to recommend expanding to 72 or 76 teams in advance of the 2027 championships.”
