Burnham is right. A left-of-centre government should stand up to the bond market vigilantes, not be in hock to them. As the excellent Neil Wilson explains here, governments of currency-issuing nations do not need to 'borrow' in any conventional sense. new-wayland.com/blog/euthanise….

This is more proof that economics is not a science. Imagine Nature magazine running a headline such as "Earth is running out of gravity"....#LearnMMT

Someone needs to explain to Rachel what happens when £s are returned to the govt, whether through taxes or fines. They are lumped into the consolidated fund and deleted every night. If Rachel wants to fund schools, she can just give them money. That’s how govt spending works.

95% of the UK earns less than £55,000 a year. A lot of them are sick of all-channel coverage and content focusing on what the 5% like, what they need to feel secure, admired, thanked, and celebrated, and what they think is good for the 95% who are supposed to envy or aspire them.

Printing money is a problem if you’re printing in lieu of production, not if you’re printing in line with production. The sooner people understand this the sooner they can stop being superstitious about monetary policy. Focus on production. The money is just an accounting tool.

Jason Hickel explains the monetary system to Aaron Bastani (From min 1:39:00) Its a great explanation. Focused on the availability of real resources. That incidentally shows how achieving an environmentally sustainable economy requires getting MMT. youtu.be/bjlqWHXrTak?si…

Wray (2025), "Forget billionaire taxes to raise revenue. Instead, tax billionaires to destroy their wealth—impose a 120 percent wealth tax to take all of it, and send them a bill for the rest. Incentivize them to try to work their way out of the debt."

“Everything is too expensive and nothing works” Political commentator Ash Sarkar says privatisation is a “failed experiment” that has “cost this country dearly” and “our money has been paid out to shareholders” #bbcqt

The extent of privatisation in the UK is one of the issues of the hour and Ash does a good job of putting that issue on the table.

Remove the word "just" in the final sentence and it's perfect. Now imagine how rapidly the neoliberal austerity regime would collapse with a groundswell of support for Clive's messaging.

James doesn't like it when Zac says "We don't need to tax the wealthy to fund public investment". You lost. New era, new economics where the left have a fighting chance. Don't you dare derail it. x.com/BBCPolitics/st…
