Probability for engineers 4/4. Hypothesis testing is rigorous in that sense that <if the confidence interval is precise then> the interval either includes the unknown mean or else it does not contain the unknown mean ... one or the other is definitely true.

Probability for engineers 5/4. If our experiment is repeated multiple times with new samples of the data and associated sample means and confidence intervals are computed, 95% of the confidence intervals will contain the true mean. Interpretation is key here ...

Nick Higham is no longer with us. He was a unique human being and a special person. We have been academic pals since starting out our careers together in 1985. Nick will be missed by his colleagues in Manchester and his friends across the world.

Despite media reports to the contrary, I am happy to confirm that the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences is still alive and kicking. The force is strong.

The impact of Turing's work extends far beyond academia, inspiring generations of computer scientists and AI researchers. It has even permeated popular culture, as seen in the 2014 film "The Imitation Game," where Turing is portrayed by UoM alumnus Benedict Cumberbatch.
