Language is a major barrier to conference participation. 30% of non-native English speakers often decide not to attend an international conference; 50% avoid oral presentation; they need 90% more time for prep; 65% struggle to explain in English. doi.org/10.1371/journa…

This article, about the lived experience of pregnant women in Isiolo County, Kenya under heat stress, is one of the most poignant I've read about the impact of climate change. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37725839/

A terrific photo-essay on what one cattle farmer in Texas is doing to combat climate change: projects.apnews.com/features/2023/…

Activists focus on how climate change will affect the west, or impact charismatic animal species. But subsistence farmers in the developing world will almost certainly be among the worst-hit, and I'm not sure we in the west are as cognizant of that as we should be.

Congrats Botswana: every Botswana farmer, rancher, cow owner who owns a smartphone can monitor his/her cattle with drones from the comfort of home as gov makes technology available. Cattle theft has risen "alarmingly." App also notifies if cattle is straying over border into Zim.

World hunger is back to 2005 levels. This is wrong. I was proud to represent Ireland at an event on climate & nutrition at #COP28 with experts working to ensure nutritious food as we work to overcome the impacts of climate change.⁦Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement⁩ & ⁦⁦GAIN

How I start off every morning… fly the drone out to check the cows. Checked 5 herds on 5 different quarters. All from my kitchen table. Checked all the bunks, water, cows are all in and look comfortable. Takes 15-20 minutes. Strong winds today slowed the drone up a bit.

My question is: On Monday night, COP28 was on the verge of failure--the headlines were apocalyptic--but 24 hours later there was a sense that it was a success. What exactly happened in those 24 hours?
