Thanks to Secretary Bikash Devkota of Ministry of health and population Nepal and his team for a promising meeting today about cooperation with IFRC and Nepal Red Cross Society in community health promotion, cholera prevention and control, climate and health, & mental health among others.

The IFRC network has been proud to support the work of Nepal Red Cross Society in water and sanitation in Okhaldhunga. Volunteers there are making a difference in the truly life-saving action of washing hands.

This is a hard time for humanitarian funding everywhere, but the abandonment of DRC, even as its needs are spiking, would be a particular tragedy.

Exchange between volunteers of different countries is part of the magic of the Red Cross.

Nepal has a great deal to be proud of in its advance in making health care accessible, but there is also still a lot to do. Really welcome Minister Pradip Paudel's initiative to strengthen the partnership with IFRC and Nepal Red Cross Society.

With support from IFRC and its members, Nepal Red Cross Society is transforming and becoming greener. In Dhangedhi, I learned how Nepal Red Cross Society cooperation with National Trust for Nature Conservation on river flooding and sustainable agriculture is also benefiting river dolphins.

The hot season has arrived in Nepal, but Nepal Red Cross Society and IFRC network are working to stave off negative impacts on health in key urban areas.

The long-standing partnership between IFRC members Irish Red Cross and Nepal Red Cross Society, with support from the Government of Ireland, has made an important contribution to community level action. Thanks to Ambassador Kevin Kelly of Irish Embassy India for his kind attention.

Attacks on humanitarian workers mean that those in need do not get help. For the IFRC and its members, our exclusive commitment to #humanity, #neutrality and #independence is critical to our safety. We call on all parties to support these fundamental principles.

Last evening, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck in Baitadi District. The Nepal Red Cross Society District Branch reports no damages or casulties encountered so far. Further verification is underway with local authorities. As always, IFRC network is ready to support.

Turning warnings into fast action saves lives in Nepal. IFRC network is supporting Nepal Red Cross Society and Nepali authorities to empower communities to protect themselves from hazards.

As the monsoon season sets in, being ready with early warnings -- and especially making sure that communities are ready to act on the warnings -- will be critical.
