I started my last novel with the main character vomiting repeatedly between snarky opening monologue lines. What was the first scene of your last book?

This is the second time in the last five years that I’ve gotten a cold where I cough so long and hard that my doctor prescribes me an asthma inhaler after I’m better because my throat is so messed up from all the coughing that I can’t stop coughing even weeks afterward… Fun.

Ah, the abominable homophone. The writer's great nemesis. It's not a hoard of the undead. It's a horde of the undead. Get it together, man.

Not me repeatedly refreshing the Metropolitan Opera webpage because they said individual tickets to Tristan und Isolde go on sale to the general public ‘in June’ and it is now officially June SO WHY CAN’T I BUY A TICKET YET!?!? Not me.

From a contemporary review of my favorite opera. So take heart, writer friends! Some may consider your work ‘something ejaculated by [a] masturbating pig in an opiate frenzy’ now, but there may also be someone like me, 150 years later, madly in love with your glorious art…

Realizing literally a week after it happened that asking someone at a networking event about their latest job interview might be... not great... if they didn't want people to know they were thinking about leaving their current role. A WEEK later.

The Metropolitan Opera still won't let me buy a ticket to Tristan und Isolde. It's cruel, really. (They also still won't sell me a DVD of their production with Stemme on streaming.) TAKE MY MONEY, PLEASE!

“You bet your bottom dollar, I should know what to do with a fellow…” (followed by gun waving) is not the kind of line you often hear sung in opera…

I think it’s sneaky that sales people have started knocking on front doors with that duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-DUH-DUH knock like they’re someone I know. I don’t like it.

Wait. Serious question. Where can I go to watch Phineas and Ferb season five? I just heard about this. I loved that show. I can still sing the theme song. Are they releasing it all at once or doing that ridiculous one episode a week thing?

I am definitely not driving twenty-two hours round trip this weekend to see my favorite opera singer perform in person. Frankly, that sounds obsessional. You should prpbably see someone about that.

When Gioachino Rossini RETIRED from composing operas at 37 after a string of 30+ successful works and you’re sittin’ here at the same age trying to figure out if any of your sh** is publishable yet…

I’m the sort of person who puts something in my pocket and then wanders around for fifteen minutes searching for it. And I swear I’m not as silly as I seem. But you’re never quite sure…

June 5th. The Metropolitan Opera still won’t sell me a ticket to Tristan und Isolde. A Wagnerian tragedy about trying to obtain tickets… to a Wagnerian tragedy.

So, what are our best guesses for why there was a white SUV limousine parked outside my neighbor’s house at 9:00am on a Friday?

Daryn Faulkner (@darynfaulkner) 's Twitter Profile Photo

“Strippin’ in a parking lot in Philly…” “How stinky am I? These are the questions.” “They’re like doughnuts, but squishier inside.” “Oh em geeee. Shhh. It’s about to start.”

I drove twenty-two hours to see Nina Stemme in Tristan und Isolde and it was 10,000% worth it. The orchestra was amazing. She was amazing. It was amazing. Thanks The Philadelphia Orchestra!

News story today confirmed it was Nina Stemme’s very last performance as Isolde. It seems appropriate that this, for me, is an exquisite tragedy. That the first time I got to hear her sing the role live was her last time. It is a sweet pain I will love dearly.
