Here are the first images taken by #LICIACube of #DARTmission impact on asteroid #Dimorphos. Now weeks and months of hard work are now starting for scientists and technicians involved in this mission, so stay tuned because we will have a lot to tell!

Our team in Paranal have been busy observing the aftermath of the #DARTMission impact on Monday night! Images are of the Didymos system, (1) about 4hrs after impact and (2) taken the next night on the MUSE instrument with an image scale of about 3000kms at Didymos🔭☄️

Asteroid Didymos/Dimorphos grow a tail 🦕 Some of the dust and debris ejected from Dimorphos after collision with #DARTMission has coalesced into a long tail, as seen in these image taken by LICIACube shortly after impact and by ground telescopes the day after the impact. 1/n

CONFIRMED: Analysis of data obtained over the past 2 weeks by the #DARTMission team shows impact with Dimorphos has successfully altered the asteroid’s orbit by 32 minutes - marking the 1st time humans have changed the orbit of a celestial object in space! go.nasa.gov/3g2C5kp

From today's NASA briefing about #DARTMission, a nice demonstration of how we measure the effect of the impact using telescopes - including Physics Astro @ Edin's contribution through observations at the ESO 1.54m Danish telescope (part of H2020 Neorocks!)

Our team at the ESO 1.54m Danish telescope (part of H2020 Neorocks) has been observing the effect of the #DARTMission post-impact. Their contributions have helped to show a 32 min reduction in Dimorphos’ orbit around Didymos! 👏🏼☄️🔭

Have a read what Rashid and Vincent, two students from the AstroTU-Kenya, have been up to whilst they've been in TURKANA BASIN INSTITUTE Ileret for the past couple of months in TBI's new blog post: turkanabasin.org/2022/11/techni… 🔭☄️
