This election used Ranked Choice Voting, but the initial results only feature the first ranks from people's ballots. Mamdani had a very strong showing, leading Cuomo 43 to 36, however a RCV tally will still be required since no one hit 50%.

After the elimination rounds are performed next week, Mamdani will almost certainly be the winner. Most candidates have made official endorsements between front runners, or joined slates with them. So we can guess how their voters would transfer.

To reach the winning threshold (50% of unexhausted votes), Mamdani would only need 38% of the "Lean Mamdani" voters to transfer to him.

If you are excited about Zohran Mamdani winning, you better be fired up by Kshama Sawant who is actually running as an independent socialist unlike Zohran I will be interviewing her today on RBN at 3pm ET!

Pay attention to all the people who supported Zohran because he’s a Democrat, but will refuse to support Kshama Sawant an actual independent socialist.

Ranked Choice Voting has some name recognition, for better or for worse. But other voting methods exist too, so we advocate for the ones that actually give voters what they are asking for.

A lot of people are attributing Zohran Kwame Mamdani’s win because of Ranked Choice Voting but additional ranks aren’t even counted yet. We’ve only seen the top ranks which is practically just plurality voting. I think a better attribution to his win was his campaigning strategy.
