72 years ago on January 31, 1949, Curtis suffered a major fire. Interior damage was extensive, but thankfully the institute's collection of instruments and music were untouched. Here is the original Philadelphia Inquirer article, housed in the Curtis Archives

A photograph, which came to Curtis with the Eleanor Sokoloff collection in 2020, has just been identified! It is none other than Curtis's founder Mary Louise Curtis about age 4. Text at the bottom indicates she gave this as a gift to her husband Edward Bok.

Yesterday the Curtis Archives was thrilled to receive previously unseen photographs of violinist Efrem Zimbalist and his first wife, soprano Alma Gluck. Here Gluck and a companion are seen climbing in the Alps, fully undeterred by the restrictive dress of the time!

The Curtis Archives is thrilled to receive the collection of Harry Ben Gronsky. A prodigious violin student of Efrem Zimbalist and owner of a rare Guadagnini violin, he tragically passed away at 18 of tuberculosis, cutting short both his time at Curtis and a promising career
