Yesterday I had to wait in the Councillors Corridor in Glasgow’s City Chambers prior to a meeting starting. With its colour and lavish ornament combined with the sequence of tiled domed ceilings, this intense space is the apotheosis of the wally close in Glasgow and hugely

Glen Buck Glasgow City Heritage Trust If you are interested I can recommend reading Dr Stephen Mullen’s ‘Glasgow, Slavery and Atlantic Commerce: An Audit of Historic Connections and Modern Legacies’ as there is a case study on the City Chambers within it. While the imagery might suggest it, the links are not so

The Chancellor has just implemented both parts of our plan - set out with former PM, Gordon Brown - to reduce child poverty. A tax on gambling to scrap the two child limit. Very proud of our work IPPR

This is truly excellent news. The single biggest thing the Chancellor could have done to give children a decent start in life. This will protect 100s of 1000s of children from growing up facing hunger & hardship. It'll ease pressure on public services and help boost our economy.

Tackling child poverty is a moral duty. That’s why I’m ending the two child limit - so every child has the chance to thrive. This will lift hundreds of thousands out of poverty and help break the cycle of disadvantage for good.

Today’s budget is the final nail in the coffin for the Conservative’s failed austerity project. Key public services and essential infrastructure suffered because the Tories made bad economic choices - we must never go back to those dark days.

I will never forget being in the chamber, behind our first woman chancellor, as she announced the abolition of the Rape Clause. On behalf of the women who give birth every day as a result of rape; thank you.
