Ryan Burgess CSS Dev Conf in New Orleans was the first conference I attended. I loved it, learned a ton, met a lot of awesome people and had to laugh when I walked in the women's bathroom and all the women were surprised there was a line at a tech conference.

Last year I saw Mina Markham give an amazingly heartfelt, funny, insightful and personal keynote at CSS Dev Conf, and I was blown away by the impact a compassionate, non-technical talk at a tech conference could have. It inspired me to try and do the same as well. Thank you, Mina!

I remember the first conference I was flown to speak at, CSS Dev Conf. I’d been scritch-scratching away at design and development for years in my local community, and I never felt like I had much of anything to offer. I didn’t register as a local expert or anything.

But CSS Dev Conf had blind voting on their CFPs, and mine got in! All that quiet CSS wrangling through the Recession had paid off, and I was able to deliver a creative talk that lots of people liked, not just in Hawaii but in Germany and Italy and Spain...
