As it’s National Co-Production week, we’re going to share some information and resources about what coproduction is (or should be). SCIE has resources and events all week.

In a SEND context, this means that parents/Carers and children/young people with SEND should be involved in the planning and development of services and support. We like to say: service users and their families at the start and the heart of services. Is that your experience?

“To coproduce effectively you need to draw on the experiences of and involve people who would never find themselves sitting around a table with professionals or parliamentarians, not just those who are comfortable doing so” (speaker in the SCIE coproduction webinar)

With #coproduction, how do LAs and CCGs etc ensure that the meeting is not the outcome? Coproduction has to be more than just regular meetings: it has to have an impact on services, learnings and outcomes, or it's just a box-ticking exercise, and a waste of time + opportunity.

"There has to be a willingness to learn; to change; to share power." (Sandra Rennie in the SCIE #coproduction webinar) Without that starting point, co-production is flawed at the outset, with key decisions often already made, little opportunity to make a difference.
