Want to influence changes to the data that supports what we know about suicide? The ABS have opened a consultation for topics to be asked in the next population Census in 2026. Add your ideas: abs.gov.au/census/2026-ce…

"We give hope, because we still exist, because we got through a similar period and survived, and continue to recover in a way that is meaningful to us. —Peer-Worker" How can we teach "I survived" in a university degree?! #peerqualifications psycnet.apa.org/record/2021-55…

Q for suicide researchers: Do the people with LE who are participants in your study want to be anonymous? It is assumed that all identifying info SHOULD be removed but what if they WANT to be identified? #reclaimingourstories

Angela Emslie of Suicide Prevention Australia telling the #NSPC23 that we need better lived experience inclusion. We are looking forward to the time when people with LE get a vote at the SPA AGM when it comes to appointment of directors as well as a designated LE position on the board.

There are some researchers who are fantastic allies for people with lived experience and Luke T. Bayliss is one of them. A first that we have seen, a participant sharing their experience when it comes to methodology WITH a researcher. True partnerships. #NSPC23

"People with lived experience need to acknowledge that having a lived experience does not give them experience in ALL lived experiences" ... or something like that but probably with more swearing. Peta Dampney also argued, people with lived experience are NOT experts. #NSPC23

People with lived experience do not need preparation for these governance roles. They have the skills already, they are just not recognised beyond their lived experience in most places.
