CPH:DOX, the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, is underway and runs through 22 March. One of the films screening is the French production “The Musician and the Whale”. One that I will hope to catch later in the year. cphdox.dk/film/the-music…

1st Academy Awards were held at Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Thursday, 16 May 1929. It took until 19 March 1953 for the Academy awards, the 25th to be televised for first time. Those awards held at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Bob Hope was host.

What was it all about 60 years ago? On 24 March 1966 Lewis Gilbert’s “Alfie,” starring Michael Caine, held its Gala World Premiere in London before opening to the public. The film would also play Festival de Cannes in May of that year, winning the Special Jury Prize.
