After Novara Media’s highly embarrassing public climbdown last year after publishing rubbish about Gary Lubner, it’s now The Canary’s turn (yes, they’re still going, apparently, who knew). Do share widely!

A statement on allegations the Canary made against Gary Lubner On 26 June 2025, we published an article entitled "Yvette Cooper’s cosiness with Israel lobby helps explain absurd war on Palestine Action" which falsely alleged that Gary Lubner is a member of "Britain's influential

Oh look, The Canary having to apologise to philanthropist & all round good human Gary Lubner for making ‘conspiratorial & defamatory allegations’ against him thecanary.co/editorial/2025…

It is great that Gary got The Canary to issue such a humiliating apology but Jewish people involved in Labour politics shouldn’t have to constantly deal with this sort of abuse from far left platforms.

I make no point about Angela who is a very good minister and no tribute act to anyone but if this piece is implying Prescott wasn’t bright, that is 100% wrong. He was one of the cleverest people I ever worked with. He was a formidable politician and Deputy PM.

This is interesting - while just 15% support Israel, only 29% support the Palestinians. 43% in the Sunday Times poll support neither or both sides. The Government is more in sync with British public opinion than I would have expected. 41% support the ban on Palestine Action.

Very sad - Tom was a great guy. Beyond his contribution to Labour, Tom as no. 2 in NUPE with general secretary Rodney Bickerstaffe fought to make a statutory minimum wage Labour policy in the teeth of opposition from most other unions. They won and Tony Blair implemented it.

This excellent essay has lessons for the government - too often ministers echo the doom narrative. Voters need a bit of positivity and optimism.

This is truly absurd. I have known Tim for over 30 years and he has never been anything but supportive of gay equality. And his views on trans issues are in line with government policy.

Ted Short is the ideal role model for a new Labour deputy leader. Decent and well-liked, he was elected Labour Deputy Leader in 1972 after Roy Jenkins resigned over Europe. He had no ambition to be PM and served without controversy for 5 years.
