The cryoEM field, and world lost a great friend yesterday. Jos Peeters passed away. He was a great friend and outstanding EM engineer. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I was able to work with him, and all of our chats. I learned a ton. You will be greatly missed Jos

1) Early 2000’s, I was a rookie factory guy at Philips Electron Optics, aka FEI Company, building and testing Tecnai systems. Something new came around, Polara, only to be build by the most experienced folks in the factory.

2) Those experienced folks however had one look inside the octagon and said “no effing way!”. So some rookies stepped in/volunteered: me and Jos Peeters (and later Guido, aka Sinterklaas). Tomorrow is the final goodbye to Jos, an amazing person and utterly dedicate engineer.

3) A big 👍 to Thermo Scientific for also informing the many customers Jos has worked with. memori.nl/gedenkplaats/j…

My career so far? Royal Dutch Navy. ASML, music, FEI Company, science. Science utterly lacks any accountability for how one treats people.
