I had a six-way tie on my estimation challenge this week at #EBELionPRIDE, but no one got it exactly. How many do you think there are? #cpsmathjoy

check out the student thinking for this Number String: 5 + 6 5 + 7 5 + 8 5 + 9 I especially liked the algebraic reasoning on the bottom right: if a + b = c, then a + b + 1 = c + 1 #mathjoycps #EBELionPRIDE

Interesting article and comments. People certainly have lots of opinions about how to teach mathematics in elementary school...and lots of ideas about how we should decide whether or not its working... nytimes.com/2022/10/15/us/…

These 5th graders were INTO this #buildingfactfluency game! I like that the game includes some strategy and choice in addition to chance (and of course, practicing multiplication facts that we've been building meaning for all last week) #mathjoycps

This week we put out the final episode of Crash Course Black American History. We worked on this series for over 3 years and put out 51 episodes spanning the transatlantic slave trade to the Black Lives Matter movement. I’m so proud of what we made. youtube.com/playlist?list=…

Had a pretty good time with this number string today with 4th and 5th graders at #EBELionPRIDE. I'm curious, what problem would you put next in the string?

What a fantastic engaging presentation from Katherine Daugherty and Leah Lindaman at MCTM. Teachers K-12 were able to talk about the equal sign. #mathjoycps

Cannot believe my time at #EBELionPride is coming to an end! Thanks to all the admin, teachers, and students for making me feel so welcome. I will miss you all! (Here's a very special 1st grade class that I won't be forgetting anytime soon!)

Sobering visit to the Little Rock High School National Historic Site today. The arenas and issues evolve, but the hate and fear persist. I'm moved by the courage of those who put themselves in harm's way to stand against it. #MidwestNoyce
