1 thing we need to get straight is that though there may be disabled people who want to work but are not able to due to lack of support from adjustments; there are also disabled people who will never be able to work or their previous experience & health made work impossible! 1/🧵

I’m sick of the disinformation about the Motability scheme. Only those getting the enhanced mobility rate with PIP are entitled to lease a car through the scheme. You pay monthly & there is an upfront advance payment & additional costs for adaptations. It is not a free car.

In 2024, the PIP overpayment rate was 0.4%... or £80 million. This was all down to error, and the lowest rate on record (1.1% in 2023) The underpayment rate was the same as the overpayment rate. There is no statistically significant rate of fraud to note. Just for context...

So I think yall should abandon Goodreads and use StoryGraph bc it’s Black owned, lets you pause books, has a really cool buddy reading feature, allows you to create and participate in reading challenges, has fun graphs and stats, and listens to user feedback for improvements.

You do realise that cutting benefits won’t magically make disabled people well enough to work right? 😳 Cutting benefits will make us isolated, unable to afford rent, bills, food, cost of living, services that keep us independent! Callous & cruel 👿 Rachel Reeves Liz Kendall

Zero fraud on PIP Nearly half people in poverty are disabled 60% disabled people have to use foodbanks Non means tested legacy benefits have gad no cost of living payments They can't move as they'd loose Severe Disability Allowance #RachelReeves #Labour

You’re allowed to say “I hate being disabled”. This isn’t internalised ableism, it’s your reality. Truth is, being disabled is… disabling. It’s overwhelming, debilitating, and yeah… for me (and I’m sure many others)… it’s shit.

Dr Jay Watts (@shrink_at_large) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Your regular reminder: claiming PIP doesn’t put disabled people at an advantage. Disability costs on average £975 extra per month. Repeated evidence from think tanks shows PIP fails to cover these costs. Disability is expensive.

Probably the most positive thing I have done regarding my health issues is to find peace with the fact that they will almost certainly never get much better. I spent far too long waiting and hoping for the impossible, rather than accepting & learning to live with what I have.

Rachel Charlton-Dailey (@rachelcdailey) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labour are making a huge fuss of how many people are claiming pip (3.6 million). But there are 16.1 million disabled people in the UK. That means 12.5 million disabled people AREN'T getting PIP or any support.

To everyone losing their shit about #Motability, it's a car leasing scheme. No one gets a free car. We borrow it, with a weekly payment of £75 with a nonrefundable deposit which can be £1000s. The cars go back to Motability after 3 years & they sell them 2nd hand.

Two of the strongest predictors of suicide? Financial precarity—and being made to feel like a failure. Labour’s #DisabilityBenefits cuts risk both. This isn’t reform. It’s reckless harm. #WelfareNotWorkfare

Wouldn't be a Tyne and Wear Metro journey if I wasn't sweating my tits off because the heat is on full blast on the evening of the hottest day of the year so far 🙃 Just gonna cross my fingers and hope I don't throw up or pass out because this is almost unbearable and I have 30 more mins

Adam Fare 🖤🤍💜 (@adamfare1996) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Waiting lists mean that someone with a condition that could be treated, may become untreatable by the time they actually see someone. Or at the very least the recovery and rehabilitation period becomes so much longer. 6 months of waiting can increase rehab time by years.

Jen Wood - est optimum simpliciter (@unojen_wood) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Once again Labour MP's who don't bother to research how benefits work are about to be duped with 'we will give PIP claimants time to get other benefits - there ARE NO OTHER BENEFITS. The idea is to totally take away the only benefit for disabled people & that is a very sick move.

Cora ❄️ (@corazzz) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Pop app says 10 mins, station board says 20 mins, which is correct Tyne and Wear Metro ? I used the pop app to plan my journey so I'd arrive at Stadium of Light 10 mins ahead of the app time only to see a metro leaving 🙃

Cora ❄️ (@corazzz) 's Twitter Profile Photo

These new Tyne and Wear Metro trains are horrible 😭 airless boxes with no opening windows, too few handholds, men spreading out over 3 seats like their balls are the size of beach balls.
