Happy Groundhog Day! According to #folklore, if it is cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow (no shadow) then spring will come early; if it is sunny, it will see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow and winter will persist for six weeks. #GroundhogDay #Candlemas

Crazy footage from 1963 near Sydney, Australia of an A-3 Skywarrior attempting to land on the USS Coral Sea and losing it's front gear. On the second attempt they brought the barrier up. No ejection seat, the A-3 was equipped with a chute that slid to bottom of the aircraft.👀

The Brits love their fire. During WWII, Britain's FIDO system cleared deadly fog from RAF airfields by igniting petrol pipes along runways, creating fiery walls that lifted mist for safe takeoffs/landings. required 100K+ gallons/hour but enabled 2,500 ops & saved ~10K lives.👀

The Short SB.4 Sherpa, seen here from 1953, was a Belfast-built UK jet, 1st with all-moving wingtips as elevons for aero-isoclinic design. Tested 15% better high-AoA control; pilot loved visibility & stability. Ties back to the Short Brothers unsuccessful proposal for V Bomber.😎
