BIG shout out to all staff and students at John R Lewis HS. The VA Board of Education recognized us with the Continuous Improvement Exemplar Award. Our FCPS School Board presented the award last night. Honored to accept the award on behalf of our community.

On a recent trip to Baltimore, Lewis Lancers AVID students had a chance to visit Johns Hopkins University. Thank you Johns Hopkins University for the hospitality.

AVID students completed college cutouts about private universities. I always enjoy putting these on my wall.

A little late posting, but last week I had the opportunity to take my World History students to the The Walters Art Museum . They loved all the artifacts, in particular the sections on Greece and Egypt. It was great to see their enthusiasm for history and art.

I hope everyone has a great winter break! Today AVID students at Lewis hosted Key MS AVID students. Students went to different tables to learn about the different aspects of AVID here at Lewis. Thanks Edu-Futuro for also coming by to talk about your program here at Lewis.

It was great to have former AVID students come to class today to talk about their transition to college with current AVID students. I always enjoy seeing how well my former students are doing and they're enthusiasm to share what they have learned.

It was great to have someone from NASA Goddard come to AVID class today to talk about different types of engineering and careers in NASA. The students also enjoyed seeing a small satellite up close.

Today Lewis HS AVID students had a great field trip to George Washington University. Thanks GW University for the hospitality.

Every year I enjoy seeing all the great MYP projects. The students at Lewis High School never cease to amaze me with their creativity.

Congratulations to our FIRST Faculty Athlete of the Month, Mr. Verloop! He is a marathon runner and pickleball athlete outside of teaching our Lancers Social Studies. If you see him in the halls, tell him congrats!

I was able to chaperone one of my favorite field trips today, the IB Anthropology trip to Lancaster, PA to learn about the Amish community. Students always enjoy this trip too.

I had a great weekend in Philadelphia for the Teaching American History conference on "How Congress Began". It was great to learn so much and to see so many sites where American history was made.

AVID 11 students at Lewis were able to present at the Lewis Leadership Exhibition of Learning today. Students are creating a service project to Arcadia Farms to learn about sustainability and others are creating county lessons from the book "Black Communities of Fairfax County"
