I love the fact that every day we go to work, we can make a difference. Maybe not a big difference... but lots of little differences. And those add up. We can support a colleague, connect with a kid, make someone smile... or their burden a little lighter. That can be tomorrow!

Loved going back to where it all began for me! Harvest Elementary will always be family!

You may have crafted an eloquent philosophy of education. You may have developed a killer resume. But what I’m much more interested in... is how you treat the students who might seem unlovable... and how you respond to your colleague who needs assistance.

The first trait I look for in a “strong” man or a “strong” woman is humility. Anybody can look strong with words or attempting to demand a room. But when I see someone walk in humility constantly, that’s when I know they’ve tapped into a strength that’s not their own.

Don’t ever say to a student who’s struggling with mental health & well-being to check back with me if you need anything. You go & check on them - proactive not reactive! No judgment , no shame, no blame!

Administrators want teachers to be sensitive to the home life of kids. Well… administrators need to be sensitive to the home life of their teachers. They deal with divorce, depression, family illness, and other stresses that can have a profound impact. They need compassion too.

For sure.
