Moments after Wisconsin Hockey won its first NCAA title 50 years ago, UW athletic director Elroy Hirsch was in the joyous Boston Garden dressing room crying. "This is the happiest day of my life,'' he said. It was the first of eight NCAA crowns won by UW on his watch (1969 to '87).
