There are 12 schools who have played in 10 or more state title tilts since 1959. Louisville St Xavier-18, Danville-15, Belfry-15, Newport Catholic-14, Louisville Male-13, Boyle County-12, Bowling Green- 11, and Franklin Simpson-10 round out this elite group.

Throwback to 1980 and some great games with The Newport Wildcats, from the mid 70's to the Mid 80's was the heyday of the battle for the Fireman's Bell.

In 2012 Newport Central Catholic defeated Caldwell County 30-26 to capture the Class 2A state title (their 5th state title). The head coach of the Breds was Eddie Eviston.
