My Eurovision rankings: 1) Finland: decidedly good song, but also weird af and fun. Embodiment of Eurovision 2) Switzerland: just on vibes, 10/10 performance 3) everybody else

via The New York Times Absolutely idiotic move. Feigning that this about “protecting middle class households” is bullshit. Taxing businesses to finance the updates is what’s going to stifle business. Cars are the problem. Tax the cars! 🙄 nytimes.com/2024/06/05/nyr…

Watching the swimming olympic trials: these are gods and goddesses among us. The pinnacle of human achievement. Watching the running olympic trials: why tf do you do this to yourself? You can't be enjoying this... Pls stop...

“This guy is 3 years younger but a lot less competent” is a good line if it’s not delivered by somebody what sounds like they get lost walking around the neighborhood

My feeling is that Jill Biden wants Joe Biden to not step down because Jill Biden likes the fact that she gets asked to be on the cover of Vogue.

Mediocre take -yes, those narratives are out -No, his campaign is endangered because of his age. The stories are, if anything, exacerbating an already dire situation -They have published those stories. May be a few minds got changed, but not Trump’s.

When I’m 80 and in charge of the last political line of defense between democracy and fascism in America and absolutely blowing it, I’m hoping that my family and friends have the courage to tell me it’s time to pass the baton.

My feeling is that this would have been really persuasive as a closed door speech to the caucus. But it was a letter, probably because if he got in front of the caucus he would ramble and make it clear that the debate wasn’t a one-off, which is why we’re still talking.

The Matthew Yglesias “duck or rabbit” analogy is perfect. Once you see the duck, you don’t unsee the duck. And what I think a lot of the Biden faithful are missing is that the votes that matter, the 80k voters across 3 states who aren’t watching every day, they start at duck.

Takes like this are so stupid. “60% of Ds think he’s too old and should step aside, but here a room of people that chose to see him on a Friday afternoon say they want him to stick it out, so he should!” IDK, seems fairly unrepresentative of the avg voter…

I’ve never been a big Mark Cavendish fan (nothing personal, just always felt 🤷‍♂️ about sprinters), but learning that he’s a giant Waffle House fan changes everything. Yes Mark! New fave ❤️ Get yourself that Allstar Special 🧇 with your hashbrowns smothered diced and peppered

A not isolated theme is some of the “Biden is being forced out by the media but WE are with him” are absolutely convinced that anybody who thinks he should step aside is a Russian bot rather than a part of the 60-80% of Dems that think he should; which honestly explains a lot

The upside to picking somebody that can’t upstage you is that they won’t upstage you. The downside is that there is the distinct possibility that person still becomes governor of NY

The silver lining is that for the first time in several years I’m experiencing existential dread. My therapist is going to be so proud that I’m opening up to feelings that I had closed off to myself

This is the correct takeaway. In lib vernacular: “do not invalidate somebody’s lived experience.” If the economy is “good” and a voter tells you it’s not, it’s tempting to say they don’t get it. But 9 times out of 10, they say the economy isn’t good because it’s not FOR THEM.
