Thursday 12th June 1980 is a date the great Ray Clemence would never forget. His 50th England cap first appearance in a major international tournament and temporarily led off the field suffering from the effects of Tear Gas. Certainly an eventful day for the Liverpool FC man. 45 years ago!

18th June 1980 …Making what would turn out to be his final major international tournament appearance Liverpool FC ‘s Ray Clemence saves a penalty for England from Dani of Spain in the Euro 80’ tournament in Italy. Personally I think it’s a travesty the great man was so shoddily treated!

May 27th 1981 … the great Ray Clemence brings down the curtain on his Liverpool FC career by winning the European Cup beating Real Madrid 1-0 in Paris. He won every domestic trophy 3 European Cups 2 UEFA cups plus 56 of his 61 England caps during an incredible 14 years at Anfield.

1987…. Ray Clemence in the thick of the action for Tottenham Hotspur …. the former Liverpool FC and England man would pick up an Achilles tendon injury later that season which would eventually force the great man to end an illustrious 20 year top flight career

May 1981 …. After securing the European Cup with Liverpool FC in Paris it’s straight off to Switzerland with England for a World Cup qualifying tie in Basle for Ray Clemence and team mates Phil Neal Terry McDermott and Sammy Lee
