Reasons recorded for worker absence on this 3,200 year-old ancient Egyptian attendance register include ‘brewing beer’ 🍺, ‘stung by a scorpion’ 🦂, and ‘embalming brother’! 🤯 From Deir el-Medina workers village. 📷 my own #Archaeology

Granted special access to one of the few still standing #marble #temple in #Rome. Ancient literature point to this being the temple of #Hercules Victor, its round shape being notable. The columns are pentelic marble shipped from Athens. Thought to be erected in c. 100BC.

The #temple of Portunus between the #tiber and the Forum Boarium. There are few ancient sources relating to this temple but it is mentioned by #varro , and in the calendar, it’s dedication date being August 17th.

Some shots of the incredible #Ludovisi #Gaul or ‘The Galatian Suicide’. The slumped, deceased woman and the dynamic, passionate Gaul urge you to circle the statue’s entirety

Many #Roman tiles with #children's footprints are known from all parts of the empire. But this is a special one, as it can be dated precisely due to the stamp: in 123 AD a #toddler stepped on the tile that laid out to dry before firing. 1/2 #TilesOnTuesday #RomanArchaeology

So honoured to have attended the fantastic #lecture by mary beard at the Villa Wolkonsky last night with @the_bsr - ‘At home with the Roman emperor’, a preview of her forthcoming book. I hope one day I can convey the ancient world as effectively🤞🏼🤩

It’s been less than a hundred years since women in Britain have had the right to vote. This Manchester banner was unfurled in 1903 - it would be 25 years before the suffragettes’ dream was finally realised. Make sure you use that hard-won right today!
