Had the privilege of listening to Dr İbrahim Fatih DOĞAN tonight & learned that kids as young as 2 or 3 can recognize race and act based on race. If educators are not actively engaged in anti-racist work, we may be passing racism on to our students without even knowing it #RLR593

I asked my 7th graders to reflect on the #diversebooks they read first quarter. Here's what they had to say: "It helped me realize that if I try hard enough to help my generation understand, maybe we can be inclusive. Just maybe." #RLR593

"It is important to read #diversebooks because if you keep reading the same books with perfect lives, you will never know how it is to live in someone else's shoes." - 7th grader #RLR593

"I think this book did change my perspective on things. It helped me to realize that you that you never know what’s going on inside anyone’s mind but your own, and sometimes it's better just to listen because you need to hear what others say." - 7th grade student #RLR593

7th grade reading reflections: "This book makes me think 'wow I’m lucky.'" "I think after reading this book, I feel a strong sense of gratitude for what I have." "I should do all I can to help people in need, and think not only about myself." #gratitude #diversebooks #RLR593

Last 2! "Without #diversebooks, we would feel no sympathy, we won’t be able to help anyone, and the whole world will become divided." "I am an asian jew and my book made me realize I am so lucky to have never been bullied for the way I look and what I believe in." #RLR593
