CIR is taking this summer to appreciate the beauty of our beloved #ChannelIslands! Today, let's focus on #SanClementeIsland. Although not usually accessible to civilians, Channel Islands Restoration has taken special trips with volunteers to restore habitat and remove #Iceplant.

We're extra grateful for our volunteers who braved the Southern California heat to help remove brush and invasive weeds crowding out our new trail system at the San Marcos Foothills. 🥾

Our team at Channel Islands Restoration have been hard at work restoring habitat! One of our most extensive projects this year has been in Thousand Oaks, CA removing Sweet Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Yellow Star Thistle (Centaurea solstitialis), and Artichoke Thistle, (Cynara cardunculus).

The Indigenous #Chumash depended upon a variety of food sources on the Channel Islands. One botanical food source that the Chumash of the #ChannelIslands probably relied on most is Blue Dicks (Dipterostemon capitatus), a small wildflower that is also present on the mainland.
