Scheffler makes a birdie coming out of the rain delay to get to 4-over. He is on No. 14. With the leaders stumbling, the world No. 1 isn't out of it. But Scheffler is running out of holes, and he has bogeyed the 15th every day this week.

You know what? If J.J. Spaun wins the #USOpen, people will hold their noses. But Spaun has made the shots when he needed them. No one else has.

During Thursday's coverage of the U.S. Open on Peacock, Brandel Chamblee said Scottie Scheffler would win the tournament by 7 or 8 strokes. How did that work out?

One thing seems certain at this point: With Rahm and Scheffler now eliminated and Adam Scott about to drop another shot on No. 16, Oakmont will produce yet another first-time major winner. #USOpen

Say what you want about J.J. Spaun, but the U.S. Open is designed to reward the players who make the right shots at the right time. Spaun did it all day and most of the week. #USOpen

Say what you want about J.J. Spaun. Call him a "nobody" if you will. But that "nobody" was the only "somebody" who made any clutch shots on Sunday. That's what the U.S. Open is designed to do: Reward the guys who make the shots, regardless of their name. #USOpen

If the USGA should take heat for anything, it isn't Oakmont's setup. It's for making the players finish in those silly conditions. Forecast had called for rain/storms. Should have started at 7 a.m., sent players off both sides, tournament over by 3. Problem solved. #USOpen

Wyndham Clark allegedly damaged lockers at Oakmont CC, and people are calling for the PGA Tour to suspend him. The Tour might not have jurisdiction. None of the majors are technically PGA Tour events. They are run by other entities and merely are part of the Tour schedule.

With the latest version of the men’s U.S. Open at Oakmont in the books, attention shifts to the return of the Women’s Open. That will occur in 2028, the third time the USGA stages the women’s national championship at Oakmont. triblive.com/sports/oakmont…

Spot on here: Just because someone played a sport doesn't mean they know how to analyze/talk about it. On the flipside, just because someone didn't play a sport doesn't mean they don't know how to analyze/talk about it. Mark Madden

For all of you grousing about Oakmont being too difficult, take heart. It's Travelers Championship week. There will be plenty of 61s and 62s on the scoreboard.
