This is an important paper, especially for journalists. Teacher survey responses are predictive, but we shouldn't expect to see half of teachers leave. Comparing Teacher Turnover Intentions to Actual Turnover: Cautions and Lessons for the Field -journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.310…

Happy Monday! Sharing the final, in-print version of a paper that I started circulating back in 2021 (with a different title). This is one of the many examples for me where engaged and thoughtful peer reviews have made the work much stronger. journals.sagepub.com/eprint/JVTV2RZ…

Bad actors will use deepfakes to try to "manipulate what people think are the trusted sources of information," says RAND's Christopher J. Doss. Fakes that depict scientists "are probably going to be something that we see more of." nature.com/articles/d4158…

Completely agree! Economists also need to also expand their definition of economist. They are obsessed with having a Ph.D. in economics. I have a Ph.D. in Econ of Ed from an education school. Many econ Ph.D.'s don't think I'm an economist. I literally do the same thing as them.

Really glad to see this paper out EEPA Editors! It is a timely piece given the recent rhetoric about the effects of recent immigrants on school systems in new destination states. Here is a brief thread: x.com/uozek/status/1…

This year I had my loans forgiven. I forgo higher wages by working in a non profit (colleagues with my skill set are in tech). The money I saved ≠ forgone wages, but it says my work means something. That’s not in these stats, and the stats alone justify the program’s existence.

Big news from Common App for my fellow education researchers: for the first time ever, Common App is hosting an open Call for Research Proposals to solicit innovative and rigorous research projects using our expansive data warehouse!

Like many of my colleagues, I am transitioning to BlueSky. I will be on both platforms in the short term but hope to transition off X in the medium to long term. Let’s see how this goes!

Extended earlier work on state takeovers to look at longer-term effects and find no evidence of benefits to student achievement, on average, up to 9 years post-takeover. Also, no variation in effects depending on the length of state involvement.

I cannot say enough what a great resource I think this will be to anyone interested in learning about key education issues and what research has to say about them. livehandbook.org

Public school-based pre-K teachers sit at the intersection of early childhood and K-12, but their unique role in early learning is often overlooked. The RAND American Pre-K Teacher Survey report brings their perspectives forward. #TeacherVoices #WOYC25 rand.org/pubs/research_…

I loved leading a RPP with National Head Start Association and codeSpark Academy to create the first comp. thinking curriculum for pre-K. We also made a 1:1 assessment of CT skills for children 3-5 free for all! Assessment: edinstruments.org/instruments/co… Validation paper: mdpi.com/2227-7102/15/1…

I have yet to see a rigorous research study that shows any academic benefit of virtual K-12 schools over brick and mortar schools. An important point as we seem poised to expand school choice efforts.
