How one gene can be both good and bad. Hypoxic signaling have been shown to be increasing chemo resistance of cancer.

The gene ESR2 give rise to ERb1 which turns off hypoxic signaling (the good) and ERb2 as well as ERb5 turning on hypoxic signaling (the bad)

Interplay between ESR2 variants. Opposing effects on Chemo from the same gene. ERb1 increases effect of Chemo while variants decreases.
