I'm crushed. Had the pleasure of visiting the #CubbingtonPearTree a number of times, including with friends somewhere-nowhere. Humbled by its size and majesty, I simply had no idea wild fruit trees could grow this big. Shameless #HS2 destruction at its finest.

Today I saw this very chunky dormouse weighing in at 40g (previously the heaviest I had seen was 32g) having got home and checked it turns out only 20 dormice have ever been found since the 80s that are this heavy. I want to know what he's been eating 🌰 Ellie Scopes

Our new cat paper is now online! Providing high-meat content food and object play reduce predation of wildlife. These novel strategies reduce cat hunting motivation, bringing benefits to cats and wildlife and might appeal to owners more!🐱 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

New cat paper!😺we applied stable isotope analysis to estimate contributions of wild and pet foods to diet of domestic cats.We also tested whether treatments aimed at reducing killing affect the relative importance of prey in cats' diet: esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ec… 📸Vittoria Roatti

I can't stop thinking about this Greenland shark, recovered dead from the sea this evening. Even if she was "only" just over 100 years old, she has shared the Earth with thylacines and passenger pigeons. She swam calmly in the deep ocean as wars raged above her.

I try to stay off politics but.... the world is literally on fire, people are dying and wildlife face extinction, and the UK government just announced "At least 100 new North Sea oil and gas drilling licences". I despair. I actually despair.

Why do hazel dormice enter torpor (mini hibernations for a couple of hours during the day) when they should be active looking for food and mates? Lots of reasons and potential consequences presented this morning by Charlotte Armitage, thanks for sharing your PhD research with us!
