Standing room only for Pete Chonka at the CAS Edinburgh and CeSeR conference “Somali mobile innovation” as part of a panel on Everyday Security.

Such a fantastic first day of the conference, excited to soon be kicking off day 2 including keynote by Comfort Ero.

This was a lot of fun - thanks for the invite and program Maggie Dwyer & Akin Iwilade! CeSeR CAS Edinburgh

Starting panel 8 focused on foreign policy and security, chaired by Dr Sara Rich Dorman, first up is research on Turkey’s engagement with African states by Edoardo Lavezzo. Next up Sarah Vaughan and Ini Dele-Adedeji. CAS Edinburgh CeSeR

Two days of excellent discussion and enjoyable meet ups on African studies. Many thanks to all, especially Maggie Dwyer Anne-Laure Mahé at CAS Edinburgh and CeSeR

Very much enjoying this reflective conversation between Comfort Ero of Crisis Group and Cyril Obi of SSRC concluding this CAS Edinburgh CeSeR conference.

What a way to wound up a two-day annual conference on #security in #Africa at CAS Edinburgh ! #Cyril Obi and #Comfort Ero dished out the last meal leaving us with a fodder to digest for many months to come. Brilliant pair. Good reflections on coup in Africa.

New publication! In my article in Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) Journal I ask the often overlooked question of why leaders prefer either securitization or desecuritization. My findings suggest that psychological variables play a crucial role in the initiation of these processes. 1/3 academic.oup.com/fpa/article/20…

Well done Lauren Lauren Rogers!

1/ I am so grateful this paper is out in European Security! This project started 6(!) years ago when I was a master’s student in Strasbourg and benefitted from so many comments, suggestions, and edits from friends and colleagues in P&IR Edinburgh, Univerzita Palackého, @UU_University & Beyond.
