The #ElectionsAct contains very strict confidentiality provisions that prevent the Commissioner and her team from sharing details about their work, including information related to files resolved using informal means.

If you have submitted a complaint to our office, the level of detail in our correspondence with you represents the extent of the information we are able to share.

People who violate the #ElectionsAct may have the option to enter into an undertaking. It is a pledge to take actions to comply with the requirements of the Act. Undertakings are accepted by the Commissioner and are aimed at ensuring compliance with the Act. #cdnpoli

Although we get a large number of complaints during an election period, the CCE’s investigative work continues well beyond polling day. #cdnpoli

Most of the complaints we receive come from Elections Canada and from citizens concerned by suspicious behaviours or messages related to the elections. #cdnpol
