City of Vancouver says it is waging war on invasive Japanese Beetle. Hundreds found concentrated in David Lam Park. City in conjunction with Park Board and province will begin spraying for them in June. CBC British Columbia


Province’s Chief Veterinary Officer says no biologic options available to combat it and is assuring public the spray is safe for people all other organisms that come into contact. CBC British Columbia

A new zone has also been created where no one without written permission is allowed to remove dirt, plants with dirt or cuttings out of. The area is bordered by Burrard Inlet, Clark Drive, 12th Avenue and Burrard Street. CBC British Columbia

Officials say the Japanese Beetle has a similar life cycle to the European Chafer Beetle, but damage doesn’t come from other animals ripping grass to eat grub like Chafer. The beetle damage comes from it eating leaves of trees and plants and killing them. CBC British Columbia
