It's not about the pay rises, it's that the budgets won't stretch to cover it. It's a very elitist "just tighten your belts a bit" attitude. The money is not there to pay teachers, doctors, etc more. That money will have to come from a cut elsewhere.

We all enjoy it when we find an aptronym - a name that seems to suit the occupation of its bearer incredibly well. It can make us think that the name is responsible for their having that job. But is there any evidence for "nominative determinism". 🧵 1/23 (Image @gordmatheson)

I noted on centre services that the mark schemes for the AQA A level physics exams are out. Every year I sit down and answer the questions as a student would. When the mark schemes come out I mark them honestly and see how I did. It's great CPD. Here's how I did... 🧵/1

For students who got their accommodation request into their first choice uni - and got the grades - this will be less of an issue but this year around 17,000 students are going through clearing - so worth checking what the housing situation is if you are choosing where to go

Many are heading off to University Open Days at the moment here's a few starters on costs , marketing and more (feel free to add yours)... 1) If a big name Professor is speaking - ask 'what are your contact hours with undergraduates' some only do research and are just wheeled
