An in depth look at the AQA A level physics papers this year.🧵 I've now answered all questions across the three papers (brilliant CPD that I recommend). The summary is that the papers are challenging, at times bordering on the unfair. Paper 3a I think goes over that border. /1

Wanna understand some of the biggest science news of the year (maybe the decade?) better than 99% of people? That new should be coming out tomorrow evening, but we know a bit about it...so here's a thread:

It's not about the pay rises, it's that the budgets won't stretch to cover it. It's a very elitist "just tighten your belts a bit" attitude. The money is not there to pay teachers, doctors, etc more. That money will have to come from a cut elsewhere.

We all enjoy it when we find an aptronym - a name that seems to suit the occupation of its bearer incredibly well. It can make us think that the name is responsible for their having that job. But is there any evidence for "nominative determinism". 🧵 1/23 (Image @gordmatheson)

I noted on centre services that the mark schemes for the AQA A level physics exams are out. Every year I sit down and answer the questions as a student would. When the mark schemes come out I mark them honestly and see how I did. It's great CPD. Here's how I did... 🧵/1

For students who got their accommodation request into their first choice uni - and got the grades - this will be less of an issue but this year around 17,000 students are going through clearing - so worth checking what the housing situation is if you are choosing where to go

This is my annual back to school reminder of the existence of sciencedoctor.school.blog. There are now over 500 teaching resources freely downloadable from there, across KS3-KS5. For example, there are individual worksheets for each part of KS4 physics. /1

Let's imagine that we have 100% attendance. Every child is in school. The sick ones, the unhappy ones, the ones who have just lost their parent or grandparent. The ones who are only just four and can't quite manage a whole day yet without a nap. They're all in. 1/

For the first time, this is what a Master’s degree looks like. Today, my daughter #RachelHandlin became the 1st person with #Downsyndrome to earn a graduate degree. In the world. Ever. Rachel says: “I won’t be the last.” CalArts BFA 2020. Pratt Institute MFA 2024. Legend.

Please do not ever minimise a child’s voice in any situation. Parents ARE the experts in their own children and young people - respect that & work with them to keep the best interests of the child / young person at the centre always. #SEND #Autism #ParentCarer
