Has the local authority failed to organise your child's transport to school or changed the arrangements? We often hear from families experiencing difficulties with transport at the start of a new school term. Learn about your rights and what to do here: ipsea.org.uk/Pages/Category…

Good work by Special Needs Jungle uncovering the target that Department for Education repeatedly said doesn't exist - to reduce by 20% the number of children & young people who have an EHC plan. We have asked the Shadow Children's Minister to raise this as an urgent question in Parliament.

Greater transparency is needed from Department for Education, not least on what the 20% reduction target is based on: what's the evidence that children & young people are being given EHC plans they don't need? ipsea.org.uk/news/evidence-…

Having to go through a Tribunal appeal has a massive impact on families - and not every family can do it. The solution to this situation is to ensure that local authorities comply with the law, make lawful decisions first time and fulfil their duties to children & young people.

MYTH BUSTING ⬇️ When requesting an EHC needs assessment, you do not need to provide evidence of educational psychologist input. If your local authority refuses your request because you don't have educational psychologist involvement, this is unlawful. ipsea.org.uk/ehc-needs-asse…

What a week! But it’s not about ‘the Institute’ all we have done is to provide the leadership and infrastructure to support the untapped and huge ambitions of the research community. Science will deliver for people with epilepsy. Now the work begins…!

Today is the first day of #NationalAdoptionWeek Research shows that adopted children are far more likely to have SEN than their peers, so we’ll be spending the week busting some myths & sharing resources to support families with adopted children. Keep an eye out for our posts!

Parents/carers – do you live in one of the local authority areas below? The SEND Change Programme is being tested in your area. It’s important to understand that the programme can’t introduce changes that are outside the law. Know your child's rights. ipsea.org.uk/send-change-pr…

Somewhat biased survey by Local Government Lawyer seeking to understand the reasons behind the increase in tribunals. It’s aimed at education lawyers but we feel disabled young people and parents would provide greater insight. surveymonkey.com/r/SVRZK32

We are concerned that this summary doesn't convey the risk to children and young people's statutory rights if this 'blueprint for reform' were to be accepted. The children's sector should be working together to strengthen and uphold rights, not accept their removal.

I’m pleased to have signed this letter. No child is ineducable and the right to an education, health and care plans must be retained. theguardian.com/education/2025…
