Thanks, Paul! After admiring you and so many other past honorees, it's great to be mentioned alongside several of the essays I've most enjoyed this year.

As part of my effort to understand white supremacy in the borderlands, I traveled through Tombstone, AZ. I knew I’d see guys with guns, but I didn’t think they’d be wearing Christmas sweaters.

Arriving early for a bit of archival research before #LSA2024 Latina/o/x Studies Association. If you’re around on Thursday, I’ll be in conversation with Anita Huizar Hernandez, @tatianareinoza, Evelyn Soto, and Alberto Varon! Lucky me!

Saddened (though not shocked) by the lack of Latinx and/or Latin American writers on this list. New York Times Books, where were Jennine Capó Crucet, Angie Cruz, Francisco Goldman, Reyna Grande, Yuri Herrera, Valeria Luiselli, Helena María Viramontes, Javier Zamora, and so many others?
