Carlisle Rainey In my humble opinion, most members of the academy are going to be more impactful (in terms of potential benefits to society) through their teaching than their research. So take teaching seriously. Just like any other skill, teaching requires time and practice. Take that time.

Carlisle Rainey Learning by doing is the only real learning. The value of teaching is wholly determined by how much learning by doing it inspires (including thinking through things independently). While I try to teach well, I have learned more from worse teachers because it required more work
