We are grateful for the support from the First Minister to introduce a Right to Breaks from Caring. Only 2% of unpaid carers in Scotland receive support to enable them to have a break from caring. All carers should have the right to take a break from caring. #CarersCantWait

We welcome the announcement in the draft Scottish Budget that Scottish Government are committed to raising the earnings threshold for Carer Support Payment and Carer’s Allowance to Ā£196, which means carers in Scotland can earn an extra Ā£45 a week whilst receiving these benefits.

People with support needs in Scotland pay over £40 million every year in social care charges. This is putting many disabled people and their unpaid carers at risk of poverty. Thank you Jackie Baillie and Foysol Choudhury MBE MSP for supporting an end to care charging. #CarersCantWait

I had a conversation with the amazing Shubhanna Hussain of the Coalition of Carers in Scotland this week. I’m now convinced more than ever that we need national care standards in Scotland & party politics must be put to one side to achieve this goal. No more postcode lotteries!
