At least in the North American market, I sense we are becoming too eager to conflate playing STYLE with playing QUALITY, when the two are not always mutually exclusive... There are direct teams that are brilliant to watch, and possession-based teams that are shit to watch

I see more and more wide players asking for the ball to feet rather than being aggressive, running beyond the defender and asking for a ball into space. Design training exercises that provoke players to receive in different ways. Constraining space is a great option for this

If you're having to bring a team into a huddle before/after every exercise to explain the objectives of the work they are doing, chances are the overall message that connects everything in the session together isnt strong enough.

Be wary of any educator who preaches some form of "supreme truth" about the game of soccer. Yes, there is an underlying logic to the game, and yes we need to push for as much objectivity as possible in our work. But when putting it in practice, subjectivity is always there.

Real Madrid coming into this match with a 3-goal advantage. It will be interesting to see if Ancelotti is able to create the tension/activation required to prevent the excessive relaxation we saw vs Chelsea under similar circumstances last year.

What constitutes playing soccer the "right way": acting on the pitch and on the bench in a way that is RESPECTFUL to oneself, the coaches, the opponent, the referees, and the parents/crowd. Note that nothing tactical or related to playing style enters into the equation here.

It's a difficult task to beat Iván Fresneda in a one-v-one. He gets out to the ball quickly, squeezes space slowly, shapes his body well, lowers his core and keeps his feet moving, leverages his physicality and picks his moments. Basis of a rock-solid defender.

100% this. Clubs invest big $ in young players to get them to the top, so it's normal that they do everything possible to make sure this effort isn't wasted. But clubs that become despotic in controlling young players' lives undercut this investment by neglecting human needs

Question posed in commentary during NYCFC vs NSC "What is the secret behind NSC conceding only 2 goals in 7?" Color commentator proceeds to simply name the members of the back 5. No insight to their respective strengths, no info on their tactical intentions We deserve better.
